Hyundai Motor Group to advance Hong Kong’s hydrogen economy with new partnership

Hyundai Motor Group has partnered with entities in Hong Kong to advance the region’s hydrogen economy, utilizing a waste-to-hydrogen model and aiming to expand across the Asia-Pacific.

Hyundai Motor Group, in collaboration with partners in Hong Kong, has signed a significant agreement aimed at advancing the region’s hydrogen economy. The announcement was made during the International Hydrogen Development Symposium 2026, underlining the Group’s commitment to fostering the development of Hong Kong’s hydrogen ecosystem.

The initiative will see Hyundai leveraging its waste-to-hydrogen (W2H) model, which has already been successfully implemented in both Korean and Indonesian markets. This approach will be central to the Group’s strategy in Hong Kong, focusing on the local production of low-carbon hydrogen.

The comprehensive plan also includes the establishment and operation of liquid hydrogen refueling stations, which are crucial for supporting the deployment of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles. By integrating these elements, Hyundai aims to create a robust infrastructure that will facilitate the growth of hydrogen-based transportation solutions in Hong Kong.

This partnership not only represents a significant step forward for Hong Kong’s hydrogen economy but also serves as a strategic launchpad for Hyundai’s expansion of its hydrogen business across the Asia-Pacific region. The collaboration is expected to enhance regional capabilities and set a precedent for future developments in hydrogen energy.
