Amazon WorkSpaces Personal introduces WorkSpace Migration for Linux systems

Amazon WorkSpaces now supports migration for Linux systems, enabling seamless upgrades to newer operating systems without manual data transfer.

Amazon WorkSpaces has expanded its capabilities by introducing the WorkSpace Migration feature for all Linux operating systems available within its service. This enhancement allows users to effortlessly transition their WorkSpaces from one Linux operating system to another, facilitating the upgrade process to newer versions or different Linux distributions without manual intervention.

The new feature automates the migration of user data stored in the home directory of a Linux WorkSpace, ensuring that data is seamlessly transferred to the new WorkSpace. This eliminates the need for users to manually copy data between different WorkSpaces, thereby simplifying the upgrade process and allowing users to benefit from the latest Linux operating system features without experiencing any disruption.

The WorkSpace Migration capability is now accessible across all Linux operating systems supported by Amazon WorkSpaces in both AWS commercial and AWS GovCloud (US) regions. This development is expected to streamline operations for businesses and individuals using Amazon WorkSpaces Personal, offering a more efficient and user-friendly experience.

For detailed guidance on how to migrate a Linux WorkSpace, users are encouraged to consult the ‘Migrate a Linux WorkSpace’ section in the Amazon WorkSpaces Administration Guide.
