Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL introduces new extended support minor versions

Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL has unveiled new extended support minor versions, providing users with fixes for security vulnerabilities and bugs. Extended Support offers additional years of crucial updates past the standard support period.

Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for PostgreSQL has released new extended support minor versions: 11.22-rds.20260224, 12.22-rds.20260224, and 13.23-rds.20260224. Users are encouraged to upgrade to these versions to address known security vulnerabilities and bugs found in previous PostgreSQL versions.

Amazon RDS Extended Support offers up to three additional years of essential security and bug fixes beyond the standard support period of a major version, providing users with more time to transition to a newer major version. Database upgrades can be performed during scheduled maintenance windows using automatic minor version upgrades. To streamline operations on a large scale, users can enable automatic minor version upgrades and utilize the AWS Organizations Upgrade Rollout Policy to manage thousands of upgrades in phases, starting with development environments before moving on to production systems. Additionally, Amazon RDS Blue/Green deployments with physical replication can be used to reduce downtime associated with minor version upgrades.
