Kia Clavis EV Headlines July’s Major Car Launches

The Kia Carens Clavis EV is Kia’s first mass-market electric vehicle launched in India, positioned as a spacious, technology-packed 7-seater electric MPV designed for families. It is offered in three variants (HTK Plus, HTX, HTX Plus) with two battery options: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh, delivering a claimed driving range of 404 to 490 km. Prices start from Rs. 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Key highlights of the Carens Clavis EV include:

Power and Performance: The electric motor produces between 133 bhp with the 42 kWh battery and up to 169 bhp with the 51.4 kWh battery, both delivering 255 Nm torque. The 0-100 km/h acceleration is around 8 seconds for the higher battery option. The vehicle supports fast charging (DC 100 kW) with a 10-80% charge time of about 39 minutes, and AC charging (11 kW) taking around 4 to 4.75 hours from 10-100%.

Design: The exterior carries a modern, electric-specific design somewhat similar to the ICE version but with a sleek LED light bar joining the headlamps, a blanked-out grille with the Kia digital tiger face, 17-inch aero alloy wheels for aerodynamic efficiency, and body cladding for a rugged look. It comes in six monotone colors.

Interior & Features: The cabin is spacious with a light dual-tone ambiance, featuring a large 26.6-inch dual panoramic display (12.3-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital cluster), front ventilated and powered seats, panoramic sunroof, 8-speaker BOSE premium sound system, wireless charging, air purifier, and ambient lighting. Practicality is enhanced by a 7-seater layout with easy access to the third row via one-touch second-row tumble seats.

Technology and Safety: It includes advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) Level 2, 6 airbags standard across all variants, electronic stability control, 360-degree camera, parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and EV-specific features like vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities, allowing the car to power external devices or even other EVs.

Charging Network Integration: Kia integrates the Carens Clavis EV with its app-powered K-Charge network, providing access to over 11,000 chargers across India, making charging convenient nationwide.

Overall, the Carens Clavis EV aims to offer a compelling electric family MPV option in India with a combination of range, technology, safety, and comfort at a competitive price point in its segment.
