Amazon MSK expands Express brokers to Africa (Cape Town) and Asia Pacific (Taipei) regions

Amazon has expanded its Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka service by adding Express brokers in the Cape Town and Taipei regions, offering enhanced performance and efficiency.

Amazon has announced the expansion of its Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK) service by introducing Express brokers in the Africa (Cape Town) and Asia Pacific (Taipei) regions. This development allows users to create provisioned Amazon MSK clusters with these enhanced broker types in these new locations.

Express brokers represent an advanced broker type for Amazon MSK Provisioned, offering significant improvements in performance and efficiency. Specifically, they are designed to provide up to three times more throughput per broker, scale up to 20 times faster, and reduce recovery time by 90% compared to standard Apache Kafka brokers. These brokers come pre-configured with Kafka best practices, support all Kafka APIs, and maintain the low-latency performance that Amazon MSK users have come to expect. As a result, existing client applications can continue to operate without requiring any modifications.

Customers interested in utilizing these new features can initiate the process by creating a new cluster with Express brokers via the Amazon MSK console or the Amazon Command Line Interface (CLI). For further details and guidance, users are encouraged to consult the Amazon MSK Developer Guide.
