Arc Raiders introduces enhanced PSSR upscaling for PS5 Pro on April 28

Arc Raiders update 1.26, releasing on April 28, introduces an enhanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for PS5 Pro, offering improved image quality and stability.

The upcoming release of Arc Raiders update 1.26 on April 28 will introduce an upgraded version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for PS5 Pro users. This advanced machine-learning upscaling technology meticulously analyzes game imagery on a pixel-by-pixel basis to produce a sharper and higher-quality visual output.

Enhanced image quality and stability

The improvements brought by the upgraded PSSR will be immediately noticeable to PS5 Pro players, particularly in the intricate and detail-rich environments for which Arc Raiders is renowned.

Players can expect a crisper, more stable image with significantly reduced flickering and shimmering. The new PSSR effectively maintains fine details across all environments, resulting in a cleaner and more consistent visual experience, especially in complex scenes.

Furthermore, the technology offers superior reconstruction of moving objects. Unlike conventional upscaling techniques, the upgraded PSSR accurately handles moving elements such as swaying foliage or fast-moving Arc drones, preserving fine details even during motion.

The reduction of ghosting on translucent effects is another significant improvement. This issue, typically visible on particle effects and other moving translucent elements, is substantially minimized. Such enhancements are particularly challenging for upscalers due to the lack of accurate motion vectors for these effects. For instance, the rain effects in Arc Raiders now appear significantly cleaner.

Mikael Linderholm, Technical Art Director at Embark Studios, stated, “With the improved PSSR, we can deliver increased image quality and stability, significantly reducing visual noise in-game without any performance reductions, allowing our players to experience the game and its world with fewer distractions.”

Minimal adjustments, maximum impact

Implementing the new PSSR required minimal content adjustments, yet the results are impressive across the diverse and complex scenes in Arc Raiders, ranging from densely packed outdoor settings to intense firefights with dynamic lighting and particle effects.

Robert Kihl, Engine Lead at Embark Studios, remarked, “The new improved PSSR brings significant improvements to image quality, especially in challenging scenarios with many small details in motion. It’s impressive to see how well it works on the wide variation of complex scenes that we have in Arc Raiders.”

Release on April 28

The enhanced PSSR feature for PS5 Pro will become available on April 28 with the release of Arc Raiders update 1.26. Meanwhile, players using the PS5 base model will continue to benefit from the existing TSR upscaling, which remains unchanged by this update.

The development team expresses enthusiasm about the community’s response to these visual improvements and remains committed to exploring new technological opportunities to further enhance image quality in the future.
