AWS AppConfig introduces advanced targeting for feature flag rollouts
AWS AppConfig has improved its deployment tools by adding controls for targeting feature flags to specific user segments during rollouts, enhancing safety and precision.
AWS AppConfig has upgraded its deployment features, providing new controls that enable users to direct feature flag and configuration data values to particular segments or individual users throughout the gradual rollout process. This enhancement is part of AWS AppConfig’s main safety features, allowing customers to implement feature flag or configuration data changes incrementally over a span of minutes or hours. Such progressive delivery is designed to minimize risks and reduce the impact of any unforeseen changes.
By utilizing customer-supplied entity identifiers, AWS AppConfig can maintain specific feature flag or dynamic configuration data as consistent or ‘sticky’ for designated target segments during these gradual rollouts. This new targeting capability, facilitated through the AppConfig Agent, offers precise control by allowing updates to be directed using individual user IDs or a collection of IDs while the updates are being deployed. This ensures a more controlled and customized deployment process, enhancing the safety and efficiency of feature rollouts.
