Ford Promises EV “Model T Moment” at August 11 Reveal (U.S.)
Ford CEO Jim Farley has announced that the company will unveil a new electric vehicle and groundbreaking EV platform on August 11, 2025 in Kentucky, calling it akin to the historic Model T moment for affordable mass-market electrification.
Developed under Ford’s “Skunkworks” initiative led by a former Tesla engineer, this platform targets compact SUVs, small pickups, and even ride-hailing models with a base price around $25,000. The initiative emphasizes cost-efficiency through the use of LFP batteries, streamlined U.S.-based supply chains, and a vertically integrated manufacturing footprint, including Ford’s BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan.
This shift represents Ford’s direct challenge to affordable EV makers like Tesla’s entry-level vehicles and competitive Chinese automakers such as BYD and Geely. Farley’s vision includes improving operational efficiency and redefining market positioning amid a slowdown in U.S. EV adoption and rising macroeconomic headwinds.
