Huawei rolls out global HarmonyOS 5.1 smartwatch update with new HRV feature
Huawei has started rolling out its latest HarmonyOS 5.1 update to its smartwatches globally, bringing a slew of new health-tracking and UI features. The update, which debuted in China earlier this month as version 5.1.0.16 (C00M05), is now being distributed in Europe and other regions via a staged rollout.
One of the major additions in HarmonyOS 5.1 is a new average sleep HRV (Heart Rate Variability) feature. This tool provides users with detailed insights into their sleep quality and recovery, tracking how well their body copes with daily stress and fatigue. Working alongside the watch’s existing health sensors (heart rate, respiratory rate, and SpO2), the HRV monitor can trigger alerts when the user’s data deviates from their normal sleep baseline.
The update also introduces a new Hex Grid (Star Ring) layout for navigating the watch’s apps and menus, giving users more options beyond the current Grid and List styles. In addition, HarmonyOS 5.1 brings three new watch faces—Tranquil Landscape, Maximum Modules, Color cut-out, Speedway Chronograph, and Galactic—for enhanced customization.
Huawei says the rollout will continue in phases and hasn’t specified an exact timeline for all compatible devices. Users can check for the update via the Huawei Health app as it becomes available. The update has already been spotted for devices like the Huawei Watch D2, which is available in Europe for around €364.85.
