Housemarque has announced exciting new enhancements for its upcoming game, Saros, designed to showcase the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. Set to launch on April 30, Saros promises to push the boundaries of gaming graphics and audio technology, offering players a more immersive experience.
Enhanced PSSR for PS5 Pro
The development team at Housemarque has upgraded the PSSR upscaler in Saros to its latest version, released in March. This enhancement allows for a sharper image quality that closely resembles native 4K resolution, enhancing the visual experience as players explore the game’s world. Since its inception in 1995, Housemarque has aimed to push hardware limits, and Saros continues this tradition with the updated PSSR.
Increased Base Render Resolution on PS5 Pro
Seppo Halonen, Technical Director at Housemarque, explained that the PS5 Pro version of Saros features an increased base render resolution. This improvement ensures a clearer, higher resolution image at 60 frames per second. The game employs dynamic resolution to maintain stable frame rates during intense action, but the PS5 Pro consistently offers a sharper image. Cinematic scenes prioritize quality over frame rate, rendering at a higher resolution on the PS5 Pro.
Enhanced 3D Audio
Building on the success of Returnal, Saros utilizes PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech to provide an immersive audio experience. The game’s sound and music team has created a rich auditory environment, allowing players to experience the lost world of Carcosa through 3D audio-enabled headphones or sound systems.
Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback
Saros takes advantage of the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers. Players can engage alternate fire modes and power weapons using the L2 trigger, enhancing the combat experience. The game also features detailed haptic feedback, designed to draw players deeper into the game’s narrative and action.
Fast Loading and Early Access
The PS5’s ultra-high-speed SSD enables near-instant loading times in Saros, allowing players to quickly return to gameplay after in-game deaths or to experience new game elements. Those who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition of Saros will gain 48-hour early access, along with exclusive in-game content.
Saros is set to be a groundbreaking single-player action game from Housemarque and its collaborators, and the team eagerly anticipates its release on April 30, 2026.
