A sound philosophy inspired by nature

The Galaxy series has adopted “Inspired by Nature” as the foundation of its sound design, applying this concept to various interaction sounds, including ringtones and touch tones. By incorporating classical music inspired by nature, Samsung aims to enhance the auditory experience of everyday interactions.

The newly introduced ringtones include Bach’s “Prélude” from Cello Suite No. 1, characterized by its symmetry, repetition, and harmony, reminiscent of natural patterns such as plant growth and ocean waves. Additionally, Handel’s “Alla Hornpipe” from Water Music Suite No. 2, known for its rhythmic flow and structured progression, is included. This piece was famously performed on the River Thames for King George.

Global collaboration behind the sound

The recording process involved global experts to ensure high sound quality. The ringtones were recorded at Abbey Road Studios, renowned as the birthplace of many iconic Beatles tracks. The recording and mixing were managed by Jonathan Allan in London, while mastering was led by Tae Ho Lee of MiXNBLE in Seoul, showcasing a collaboration between Eastern and Western experts.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a prestigious U.K. symphony orchestra, performed both pieces, with co-principal cellist Jonathan Ayling featured in the Bach piece.

A unified vision for Galaxy sound

The new ringtones extend beyond simple notifications, embodying Galaxy’s sound identity which is shaped by nature-inspired design and advanced technology. “Classical music transcends time and space, resonating deeply with people,” stated Myoung Woo Nam, Principal Sound Designer, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. “We hope more users can experience classical music naturally in daily life through Galaxy.”

Samsung intends to maintain a consistent sound philosophy across its products, further developing Galaxy’s cohesive sound identity.
