Amazon Bedrock introduces OpenAI models, Codex, and Managed Agents in limited preview

AWS and OpenAI are collaborating to bring advanced AI capabilities to Amazon Bedrock, offering OpenAI models, Codex, and Managed Agents in limited preview. These offerings provide enhanced AI model access, coding integration, and agent deployment within AWS’s trusted infrastructure.

AWS and OpenAI have announced an expansion of their partnership, aiming to integrate advanced AI capabilities into the trusted infrastructure utilized by millions of organizations. Enterprises are increasingly seeking AI models and agents that offer high performance alongside rigorous security, operational maturity, and data governance suitable for production environments. In response, AWS is introducing three new offerings on Amazon Bedrock, currently available in limited preview: the latest OpenAI models, Codex, and Managed Agents powered by OpenAI.

The first major offering is the availability of the latest OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock. For the first time, AWS customers can access OpenAI’s cutting-edge models through the familiar Bedrock services they use for model access, fine-tuning, and orchestration. These OpenAI models inherit the enterprise-level controls that customers rely on, including Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS PrivateLink, encryption, guardrails, and CloudTrail logging.

Secondly, Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent, is now accessible on Amazon Bedrock, enabling integration into the AWS environments where enterprise development teams are already active. Customers can authenticate using their AWS credentials and run inference through Bedrock. Codex will be available via the Codex CLI, a desktop application, and a VS Code extension. Usage of both OpenAI models and Codex can contribute towards existing AWS cloud commitments.

The third offering, Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI, provides a streamlined process for deploying production-ready OpenAI-powered agents on AWS. These agents are built on the latest OpenAI frontier models and the OpenAI agent framework, designed for rapid execution, enhanced reasoning, and reliable management of long-running tasks. Each agent operates with its unique identity, logs every action, and runs within the customer’s environment, with all inference conducted on Amazon Bedrock. Managed Agents are supported by Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, which supplies the default computing environment.
