Microsoft and Amazon Face UK Regulator’s Scrutiny for Cloud Dominance

In July 2025, the UK’s main competition watchdog (a government agency that makes sure markets are fair) began investigating Microsoft and Amazon over their control of the cloud computing market in Britain.

  • Both companies are the dominant providers of cloud services, used by businesses, governments, and consumers for everything from running websites to storing photos.

  • Regulators are concerned that their overwhelming market share could be stifling competition, raising prices, or creating unfair barriers for smaller rivals.

If the investigation finds wrongdoing, it could result in new rules or actions to level the playing field in the UK cloud market.
