Hyundai Motor Group partners with Korea Aerospace Industries for air mobility development
Hyundai Motor Group and Korea Aerospace Industries have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop future air mobility solutions, combining Hyundai’s electrified powertrain expertise with KAI’s aircraft development capabilities.
Hyundai Motor Group has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to collaborate on the advancement of future air mobility solutions. This partnership aims to combine Hyundai’s expertise in electrified powertrains with KAI’s proficiency in aircraft development.
The collaboration will not only focus on sharing technology and talent but will also encompass supply chain management, certification processes, and the expansion of global customer networks. The joint effort will see Supernal, a subsidiary of Hyundai, working alongside KAI to develop advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft. Additionally, the partnership will involve a group-level initiative to commercialize electrified aviation powertrains.
Hyundai Motor Group, through Supernal, will take the lead in the design and engineering of the aircraft, applying its electric vehicle technology to create electric aviation powertrains. Meanwhile, KAI plans to diversify its business from its traditional focus on military aircraft to include civilian air mobility, thereby strengthening its position in South Korea’s aerospace industry.
