New PlayStation Portal software update introduces 1080p high quality mode and UX improvements

PlayStation Portal introduces a new 1080p High Quality mode and various user experience improvements, enhancing Remote Play and Cloud Streaming. The update reflects a commitment to refining performance and usability.

The PlayStation Portal remote player is undergoing continuous enhancements aimed at improving the Remote Play and Cloud Streaming experience for users.

Since the last update in November, PlayStation Portal has gained significant traction. In January, the number of monthly users for Cloud Streaming increased by 162% compared to the previous year, and more than 50% of PS Portal users have become PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, indicating a growing interest in the cloud gaming experience.

As more gamers explore new possibilities with PS Portal, the commitment to improving performance and user-friendliness remains a priority. Today marks the launch of a new global system software update for PS Portal, designed to enhance visual quality, interaction smoothness, and overall user experience.

One of the key new features is the introduction of the 1080p High Quality mode. This mode allows players to enjoy games at a higher bitrate during Remote Play and Cloud Streaming, offering a smoother and more visually appealing experience. To activate this feature, users can navigate to the Quick Menu, select Max Resolution, and choose 1080p High Quality during their gaming sessions.

Additionally, several refinements have been made to the Cloud Streaming experience. These include an improved Product Detail Page that allows users to select specific games from bundles, enhanced on-screen notifications for game invites, clearer Trophy notifications with animations for Platinum trophies, and a more efficient search interface with an instant On Screen Keyboard display.

For new users, the onboarding process has been streamlined with an improved interface and a more straightforward account creation process, which includes the ability to scan a QR code with a mobile device to set up a PlayStation account quickly.

These updates are part of an ongoing effort to enhance the PlayStation Portal experience, and feedback from users is encouraged to continue improving the platform.
