Roblox has launched an enhanced version of its app for PlayStation 5, offering faster load times and improved gameplay. Developers are excited to leverage the PS5’s capabilities to enhance player experience and visuals.
The popular gaming platform Roblox has launched a new, enhanced version of its app specifically designed for the PlayStation 5. This upgraded version promises a smoother and more responsive experience, boasting up to 30% faster load times. To mark the release, developers behind some of Roblox’s most popular games shared insights into their efforts to optimize gameplay for the PS5.
Console-specific design
While Roblox supports publishing across multiple platforms, developers emphasized the importance of ensuring their games are enjoyable with a controller. This involved adjusting menu navigation, button layouts, and in some cases, creating new systems. Wingboy0, the creator of the 3D melee fighter game Dueling Grounds, highlighted the significance of refining controls for an optimal gaming experience. “During early development, I tested other console games on Roblox to understand player preferences for action games,” said Wingboy0. “This led to the development of a camera lock system, allowing players to focus on combat without constant readjustment.”
Cross-platform communication is also key, as demonstrated by the roguelike game Dandy’s World from BlushCrunch Studio. To facilitate player interaction, they introduced a sticker system for quick communication. “Typing on a console is challenging, so we created a system for chatting and emoting with stickers,” explained KingMobMedia, the game’s lead engineer. JoeyStix, president of BlushCrunch, added, “This system allows console players to communicate with mobile and PC players as easily as with a keyboard.”
The release on PS5 opens new possibilities for enhancing player immersion, particularly with the DualSense controller’s advanced haptics. Developers are eager to leverage this technology to enrich the gaming experience.
Enhanced visuals and new opportunities
The PS5’s capabilities also allow for improved visual presentation. For example, the game NFL Universe Football, developed by Voldex, is set to benefit from the console’s power. “The game already feels great on consoles, and the PS5’s performance allows us to expand content without major performance issues,” said clxr, Voldex’s lead engineer. Senior Product Manager itsjtech added that the PS5 enables them to push visual boundaries further.
Similarly, the horror game Scary Shawarma Kiosk now offers an even more immersive atmosphere on PS5, according to creators kharbor_ykt and Graizorko. “The platform allows players to experience the game as we envisioned it, with clearer atmospheric details,” they noted.
A diverse gaming experience
For many PlayStation 5 users, this release will be their first exposure to Roblox’s evolution. Developers are eager to showcase the platform’s diverse offerings. JoeyStix commented on Dandy’s World, “The game is accessible for casual players but offers depth for hardcore gamers, with over 40 characters to master and procedurally generated gameplay elements.”
itsjtech remarked, “New players will be surprised by the quality of games on Roblox, like NFL Universe Football, which may look simple but delivers impressive gameplay.”
The creators of Scary Shawarma Kiosk added, “We aim to reach players who love atmospheric horror and console gaming but may not have considered Roblox before.”
