Samsung unveils 14-meter Onyx cinema LED screen at CinemaCon 2026
Samsung Electronics has introduced a new 14-meter Onyx cinema LED display at CinemaCon 2026, expanding its lineup for larger premium auditoriums. This new model aims to enhance the cinema experience with improved immersion and optimized theater space.
Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new 14-meter standard size for its Onyx cinema LED display lineup at CinemaCon 2026, aimed at enhancing premium large format (PLF) theaters. The new model, tailored for larger premium auditoriums, maintains the picture quality, reliability, and scalability that the Onyx platform is known for, now on a broader scale.
As cinemas increasingly prioritize premium, unique experiences, the demand for larger-format auditoriums is rising. Samsung’s 14-meter format is designed to fulfill this demand by offering greater immersion, optimized seating layouts, and more efficient use of theater space. “People go to premium theaters for something they cannot recreate at home,” stated Hyoung Jae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s new 14-meter Onyx allows exhibitors to bring the premium experience to larger auditoriums, making moviegoing a sought-after destination once again.”
Since its introduction in 2017, Samsung Onyx has redefined cinema LED capabilities with its deep blacks, rich color, and striking contrast. Following the launch of its 5-meter and 10-meter models for boutique and premium theaters respectively, Samsung is now offering a 14-meter standard size for larger venues. This new model maintains the core Onyx experience, including support for up to 4K 120Hz, exceptional clarity, and ultra-smooth motion, while introducing features like a 3.3mm pixel pitch optimized for the larger format and flexible scaling support that allows expansion up to 20 meters without compromising quality.
The Onyx screen, the world’s first DCI-certified cinema LED display, supports both scope (2.39:1) and flat (1.85:1) aspect ratios, and Samsung’s HDR technology delivers peak brightness of up to 300 nits, significantly brighter than conventional cinema standards. It also achieves 100% color volume at peak brightness, with an infinite contrast ratio for deeper immersion and detail in dark scenes.
Beyond traditional screenings, Onyx is also ideal for alternative content like live sports, concerts, gaming events, and corporate presentations. Unlike conventional projection systems, the Onyx LED screen ensures consistent brightness and image quality regardless of screen size or seating position. Compatibility with Dolby and GDC media servers also supports streamlined theater management.
Samsung has expanded its presence in premium cinema with the Onyx lineup, marked by installations such as Pathé Dar Essalam in Rabat, Morocco, and Trilith Cinemas in Fayetteville, Georgia, USA. These installations highlight the growing adoption of Samsung’s Onyx screens, which are praised for their exceptional brightness, contrast, and color accuracy.
Attendees at CinemaCon 2026 can explore Samsung’s latest cinema innovations at the company’s booth in Roman Ballroom 1&2 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, running from April 13-16. The event, organized by Cinema United, is the largest annual gathering of the motion picture theater industry.
